Looking through my pictures, I came across the image above that I had taken of
the late Ronnie Sox at a local Mopar racing event. I thought it was around two
years old but after checking the Internet, it's been over four years since his
death from prostate cancer. I also came across the Ronnie Sox Foundation that
supports the children at St. Jude and teaches men awareness and early
detection of prostate cancer. You can find more information at ronniesox.com.
I first started going to the drag races in my mid-teens. Since I didn't
have a driver's license, my mom would make the 35 mile one way trip to
Dickinson, drop me off at the Houston International Speedway, drive back
to Houston only to have to come back at night after the racing finished to
pick me up. This went on almost every weekend for two years. She always
knew how much I loved the sport. Well my mom's gone now and I miss her
dearly. As a matter of fact, she gave me the ticket above after finding it
in an old suitcase filled with old family pictures and mementos. Not sure
how old it is but with a three dollar admission fee, it had to have been
quite a while back.
