For several years now, the ISCA indoor car show circuit has had a "Drag
City USA"
display at most of it's shows. Area nostalgic drag cars are
featured. The great looking dragsters below were at the 2011 Houston
Autorama and they also took part in another popular feature, the Nitro
"Cacklefest". Check YouTube for videos.
Even though
the
"legendary"
Texas tracks
are gone,
Anybody catch the extensive live coverage from Scottsdale, Arizona of the Barrett
Jackson auction on the Speed Channel? I caught just a couple of hours total over
two or three days and I  saw three of the vehicles below cross the stage. I was
anxious to see if any more drag or drag inspired vehicles were offered this year and
how much they sold for. I checked their website for results and posted them below,.

Although I've lived in Texas all my life, I had the extreme pleasure of
having attended the Grand National Roadster Show in California four times,
including it's 50th anniversary back in 1999. This past January the show
celebrated it's 63rd anniversary and the show results have started hitting
the Internet. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised. Of the ten
vehicles that were competing for the award of America's Most Beautiful
Roadster, three were from Texas and the winner was from right here in
Houston. Bill Lindig won the prestigious award with his '27 Ford Indy
Speedster. Big Names were involved in the build including Art Chrisman,
Gabe Lopez and the So-Cal Speed Shop. Also in contention was the '32 Ford Track Roadster of Don Smith out of Bedford and the black '29 Ford Roadster
of San Antonio's Eddie Baumann. If I remember correctly, Lindig was involved in the So-Cal Texas Speed Shop that was built just north of Houston in Spring.
Don't see to many outdoor shows in January even
down here in Texas. Pearland was the site of a late
January show that I couldn't make due to a rotator
cuff injury but luckily my brother made it down.
Beautiful mid-60s weather and beautiful vehicles.
